Having my kitchen drawers organized brings me more joy than I can explain. It’s no secret that the kitchen is my favorite room in the house. Having them organized make me feel official but really makes cooking and baking a lot easier.
I have 5 tips below to help you organize your kitchen drawers!
1. Clean House
Take everything out of the drawers and get rid of anything you don’t use anymore. Have a pile for trash and donating. I had stuff that was nice or duplicates that we simply didn’t use. You will learn that life is much easier when you let go of things that no longer serve you! — Literally and figuratively
2. Measure Your Kitchen Drawers
You want to make sure you get the right size inserts! Measuring will help guide your decisions as you play a grown-up game of Tetris. I used a body tape measure because I found it to be easier than a standard tape measure but that’s completely up to you! You just need to know the dimension for the inside of your drawers!
Kitchen Drawer liners
I didn’t use drawer liners because I like a cleaner look. It’s totally up to you but contact paper is a great way to make them pretty. They are easy to clean and help with wear and tear on your drawers.
3. Find Your Drawer Inserts
This was the fun/hard part! First, you want to decide on your style; bamboo, clear, colored…Again, I loved how clean the clear looked so that was my approach! I decided on the adjustable ones so that I could use them in all my different sized drawers and keep a uniform look.
4. You Want A Tight Fit
Make sure your selections take up as much of the space a possible. My drawers go back really far so I left that space for stuff we don’t use as often. I found that not having a tight fit caused my inserts to slide around. Nobody wants that so I found some bumpers to place on the bottom of my inserts.
5. Organize Your Stuff
You want to make sure that the location of the drawers makes sense for how you use your kitchen (ie. potholders next to the oven). Keep like items together and place them in an orderly fashion. This will not only make things look nice but cooking will be a lot easier!
Using containers and inserts for organizing can be very expensive. Make a plan, look for sales, and get what you need over time. I know it’s a lot of fun to do it all at once but I know my budget won’t allow for that! Once the pieces I needed go on sale, I get them for the spaces we use the most and build from there!
Seeing my beautifully organized drawers still brings a smile to my face and when everything has a place, keeping it organized takes no effort.
Make sure you send me pictures of your beautiful drawers and stay tuned for our pantry organization project!
