We all have our favorite cookies and mine were a classic chocolate chip until I perfected this sugar cookie recipe! This cookie plus my royal icing has taken the lead for November and December from chocolate chip, lol. These sugar cookies are perfectly sweet, soft, and will melt in your mouth!
Ingredients:
- 2 ½ C AP Flour
- 1 1/4 C powder sugar
- 1 C unsalted butter
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 egg
- My Royal Icing to decorate
Directions:
- Combine all the ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer (or a large mixing bowl) except flour – mix on low
- Gradually add flour until everything is well mixed
- Roll out dough on a floured surface (1/4″ thick)
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes –this will help keep the shape when baking
- Preheat the oven to 375 F and cut cookies as desired
- If we re-roll scraps I would chill again for about 10 mins
- Bake 6-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned
- Cool on a baking sheet for 3 minutes and move to a cooling rack to cool completely
- Decorate and enjoy (We usually use store-bought icing so we can have multiple colors)
The number one rule for decorating sugar cookies is to have fun! No matter how they look, they will taste BOMB so relax and enjoy the process! The number of cookies you get from this recipe will depend on the size of your cookie cutters and how thick you roll them! If you are anything like me you will make a few batches over the holidays no matter what! Make sure you tag me so I can see your fun decorations and stop by tomorrow for the next cocktail recipe!
XOXO, Laya
