Baking is both an art and science! I know I’ve followed a recipe to perfection only to find a big fail once I opened the oven. Below are 5 tips to successful baking that have helped me avoid that fate 🙂
1. Review and prepare ahead
Read the full recipe before you start baking, preferably before you go to the store. Being prepared saves time and stress once you start baking. You can look up techniques or terms you may not be familiar with to ensure you don’t get overwhelmed and hopefully get the finished product you desire.
2. Don’t pack your flour
You want to use the spoon and sweep method when measuring your flour. Spoon the flour into your measuring cup and sweep the excess off at the end. This will ensure you don’t have more flour than you need which can really ruin a recipe.
3. Room Temp eggs
When a recipe calls for room temperature eggs it’s for a reason. They blend more easily into batters and doughs! Room Temp eggs whites also whip better if you are making a meringue or something like that! TIP: if you forget to take your eggs out, cover with warm, not hot, water for 7-10 mins.
4. There are Different Types of Butter
You want to use unsalted butter for baking! This allows you to control the amount of salt you are putting into your recipe. If all you have is salted butter, you can omit the salt called for in the recipe to ensure you don’t have too much. I know we have all had a cookie that’s a tad too salty lol
5. Always pre-heat your oven
A lot of newer ovens will countdown and tell you when they are ready but not all. You want to make sure that your oven is hot enough. Not just to bake your treats but baking at too low a temperate can mess with rising, texture, and host of other things.
Baking should be fun but nothing steals my joy like all my hard work falling flat in the end. Successful baking is in your future with these 5 tips! Make sure you check out the Baking Tab, I’ll be adding a few more recipes this week!
