I have wanted to be a mom forever but I have also been a planner forever! A big part of our family planning involved me quitting birth control and boy has it been an experience (my parents and in-laws can stop reading now lol)!
I originally got on the pill because I was having irregular periods. My dad got sick when I was in high school and that stress resulted in my cycle coming twice a month. I was already having intense cramps so it was a natural choice. 16 years later it’s time to break things off and boy was I nervous.
I searched google for what to expect and I asked my friends but most of the information was dated! I was on my own but luckily you don’t have to be, lol. Below are 5 symptoms I’ve experienced in the first few months off the pill:
5 Symptoms Of Breaking Up With Birth Control
1. Acne
Less than 7 days after the breakup, the pimples came in hot and heavy. They were both big and small and taking over my face. The pill affects your testosterone levels so a change is to be expected! –Good news, that cleared up in about a month and now I only get like 2 the week of my cycle.
2. Nausea
This was one symptom I was not aware of beforehand and most certainly the worst. It only lasted about 2 weeks but I am going on 3 months post-breakup and nausea has not returned.
3. Emotional Roller Coaster
They call it PMS but that feels too light. I was feeling EVERYTHING!! I literally looked at my boss’s name (you read that right, her name not the email) and burst into tears out of frustration. Every thought was intensified, every emotion was fully felt and 16 years of altering my hormones came back with a vengeance. I currently have more stable days than not but honestly feel like I have fewer mood swings than I did while I was on the pill.
4. Tender Boobs
About a week before my cycle starts my boobs get super tender. Especially in the mornings. I have no idea what that is about and plan to ask my OBGYN when I see her, but this has not subsided.
5. Heightened sex drive
No fluff here… I want it All. The. Time. Period — Let’s hope this last, we have a baby to make ;).
XOXO, Laya

Tender boobs is definitely a thing when getting off the pill, usually around ovulation. It’s awesome you’re experiencing it now though because it’ll be practice for pregnancy and beyond because it’s about to be a regular thing for you. Lol.

Lol lol not practice!!!! And beyond? Does it never go away?

I’m sure it’s different across the board, but for me with breastfeeding they are super fragile. If baby girl even remotely pokes or kicks or punches or whatever she is into that day, I feel it overwhelmingly more than anything pre-baby. I’m assuming it may not be the same for a mama who chooses to not bf because they won’t be combatting milk production and everything else. I’ll report back on tenderness whenever our journey comes to an end.

Yessss keep me posted!!!!

I haven’t experienced the tender boobs probably cuz I don’t really have any anymore lol. The nausea is horrible because it makes you think you are pregnant and your not. Now the heightened sex babeeeee I know about that all too well. I thought it was because I turned 35 . I have had the acne problem too and I take the hair, skin and nail vitamins. My emotions pretty much been in check tho.

That’s def what I thought at first! Like NO WAY!!! I’m glad the nausea is gone!! I love the vitamins but they make my nails grow sooooo fast and it gets expensive lol (gel polish)
Hernisha says
Yea I hate the nausea. My nails will grow fast but then they break. Smh!
LayaB says
Ahh that sucks!!

#5 was hilarious because my drive did pick up and a month after stopping the pill, boom pregnant. Good Luck and Happy Baby-making 🙂

So I used to get tender boobs as well. I tried a Vegan diet for about 5 months and during this time I noticed that my tender boobs went away. My opinion, I think it’s the hormones in chicken. I have since gone back to fish/dairy and so far no tender boobs. I haven’t had chicken in about 8 months.

Wow that’s super interesting and SCARY!! I may have to do an experiment!!!

I went through all of that when I took myself off of BC. I will say that all 5 only happen now right before I’m about to come on. Like the week before I experience pmdd. Well, besides breakouts. I haven’t experienced a break out in a while. I still come on twice in a month but it’s more bearable.
I enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for always being open and sharing. Xoxo

Thanks for sharing Cora and I’m so glad you are enjoying the blog! A few ladies shared that reducing meat helped a lot with regulating their cycle! I know my double cycles came from stress!! I hope you get it figured it! I know it’s a lot 😘
