Yes, you need a travel agent (TA) for your destination wedding! Planning a wedding is stressful enough, why take on the great task of playing travel agent to all of your guests? I was able to tap into our amazing TA Carey, throughout the entire planning process. From selecting our resort to getting all of our rebates and credits!
This post will answer a few questions I have received regarding our TA!
How did you find your travel agent?
We asked friends and family for recommendations and researched others online. In the end, I couldn’t pass up the peace of knowing people personally that she had successfully planned trips/wedding for.
How did you choose an agent?
I Looked up the companies and agents on goggle and set up consultations with the 2 I felt best met my needs. Whey I spoke with them I asked them to send over resort recommendations based on our conversation. I used the conversation and recommendations to get a feel for their style and how well they understood my vision. They walked me through how they planned to interact with me and my guest, as well as what the process would look like.
In the end, I went with Carey because she was honest. She told me she likes scheduled calls because she has kids. Originally was like CUT, I need someone 100% dedicated to me and my needs. Can we say Bridezilla? Thankfully it only took 10 minutes for me to remember I also like scheduled calls and would prefer she not be distracted. For the entire 15 months or so she was always available via email and never went even 24 hours without a response!
Why didn’t we use DestinationWedding.com?
As I was researching agents, I also started the process with them and was super turned off. Their web interface felt dated so I was already hesitant but after the first meeting, I was DONE! The agent we were assigned immediately told me certain locations were too expensive for us. The crazy thing is, she didn’t even know our budget. It was very off-putting and I would’ve been devastated had she offended any of my guests like she had me.
Post-wedding, do you still think a Travel Agent was necessary?
Yes, even more than when we first started planning! Working with a TA didn’t cost a dime but saved us so much time! TA’s are paid a commission from the resort so their services were free to us and our guests. She helped all 107 people book their trips, pay, deal with room issues, etc., all without our help.
She provided detailed packets for each guest, as well as our website, so they knew what to expect. Airport transfers were included in the total cost for our guests. They were also able to set up payment plans that fit their needs.
She even sent us a gift to get us ready to travel! I can’t tell you how much stress she took on and how grateful I am that we had her!
