We found out in early January that we are expecting! As promised, I am sharing as much of this beautiful yet wild ride as I can 🙂 A few weeks ago, I did a live video on Instagram and answered some first trimester questions I’ve been getting. I know everyone is not on social media, so I am also going to answer them here on the blog.
Is it what you expected?
Pregnancy has not been what I expected at all. I honestly expected the first trimester to be awful! We had a few bad days, but overall it’s been beautiful. Yes, I sleep with 1,000 pillows and have some back pain already, but I so far, so good.
What were some of your first symptoms?
Before we knew we were pregnant, I was getting headaches and really bad heartburn. These things were not normal for me, so when we got the positive test, I was not surprised. We found out the first day of my missed period and from there, things really turned up. I was craving spicy foods, which I don’t normally eat and my boobs were extremely sore.
When are you due?
We are due in September. I have only shared the actual due date with close family and friends. I want the baby to come when they are ready, not because I am worried about them being late.
How did you feel?
I feel extremely blessed! We did not expect to get pregnant on our first try but knowing how many things have to go right to get and stay pregnant, I am thanking God even on my bad days.
Did you Get Morning Sickness?
I have had some slight nausea, but I learned early on that as long as I don’t let my tummy get empty, I don’t get too sick. Before I knew, or days where it still happens, I have been drinking Earth Mama Morning Wellness tea and warm ginger ale to help. My UC symptoms have not been bad, but I do still have some bloating and discomfort from time to time. Paying attention to what the baby and I don’t tolerate well has helped with sickness of all kinds.
Any Cravings?
I am kind of sad that I have not had any weird cravings lol I was looking forward to that. As mentioned above, I was cravings spicy early on and the only other thing was strawberry shakes. I LOVE sweets, but I couldn’t have them at all the first trimester, outside of the shakes (which was near the end). Even a small piece of candy would make me feel awful.
Any food aversions?
Salads! Since about week 8 they have been absolutely disgusting to me! No matter what I put on them, I can’t eat them. The kid also hates pesto. I added it to my grilled cheese one day and it literally came right back up.
What Prenatal vitamins are you taking?
I take the Vitafusion prenatal gummies. They are gentle on my tummy and don’t have a weird taste or smell. I have never done well with meds but these don’t give me any trouble.
Are you getting an epidural?
The plan is to go completely unmediated but we will be open to whatever is needed for a safe delivery. I am looking into alternative methods of pain management and hoping for the best!
Are you working out?
This trimester I really only walked. I was tired and adjusting to all the changes to my body. A hardcore workout didn’t even seem like a good idea lol. Towards the end, I did add a few HIIT and yoga workouts when it felt right.
All-in-all the first trimester of pregnancy has been beautiful! There were a lot of changes and new things happening to my body, but it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. If you missed my live version of this blog post, make sure you check it out and keep your pregnancy questions coming. I want to support you no matter where you are on the journey to parenthood.
XOXO, Laya
