This year has been a tough one and I don’t expect the holidays to be easy. That, however, will not stop me from planning ways to help us feel connected since we can’t be together. Below you will find a few ways my family is planning to stay connected this Christmas!
3 Ways My Family is Staying Connected
1. Festive Pajamas
Since we started this tradition, we have been together. Everyone would get the same set and pose for a family picture. This year we are keeping the tradition alive, but with a twist. Each household will get their own pajamas and take a picture that we can use to create a fun group picture!
2. A Similar Menu
Since we do a traditional soul food dinner for Thanksgiving, we mix it up a bit for Christmas. This year, the theme is seafood, so we are all adding seafood to our dinner menu. Eating the same thing is another way for us to feel connected since we can’t be together.
3. Video Calls
I know you may be over video calls and such but this isn’t the time to cut it out. Seeing familiar faces on the big day can really make you feel less alone! We plan to video chat while my nephews are opening gifts! We have done this in the past and they are always super excited to show us what they got! Everyone gets all the feels to start the day!
Make sure you are protecting your peace this season and doing whatever makes you feel good! If seeing your family will be harder, don’t do it! If seeing them all day is what you need, look into Facebook Portal lol. Do whatever it takes to create joy and feel connected when you can’t be with family!
XOXO, Laya
