My community is bossing up and purchasing homes, so it’s time for some new home content! I won’t even tell you how many times I’ve moved, but trust me, I know what I’m talking about. Moving can be a very stressful event, but it doesn’t have to be. This post will give you 5 Tips For A Successful and Stress-free Move!
1. Donate What You Don’t Use
There is no need to move junk and things you have not used in years. Look at your new place as a fresh start and use the move to declutter and minimize your belongings. If you’ve been around for a while, you know I go through our home each season, and things we have not used get donated. I don’t ever want us to look up and have a room full of boxes we have not touched in decades. Find a local shelter and bless someone else. I love looking for places to donate where the patrons don’t have to pay for the items. A lot of stuff I have is in great shape and I probably overpaid for it anyway lol.
2. Organize Your Belongings
As I stated before, moving can be stressful, which includes unpacking. Using labels, packing by room, and grouping like items, are all things that make unpacking much easier. I pack one room at a time and put useful information on each box. What room it goes in, what level of the house it should be unloaded on, and its general contents. If you really want to go crazy, color code the boxes by levels. Your movers will appreciate the clarity!
We don’t usually unpack in a day, so this helps me find certain things and prioritize my unpacking. It’s also been useful for things we want to store and not unpack at all. If we take our time packing upfront, we don’t have to repack/relabel the boxes that we want to store. We can set them aside for easy storage and know exactly what is in them.
3. Hire Movers
This is a cost I suggest everyone add into their moving budget. Your friends are tired of moving for pizza and beer! Gameday Moving Services is a quality business that will not only save your back from all the heavy lifting, but they also know what they are doing lol. They know how to pack a truck to avoid your goods being damaged in transit. They move on the regular so they load and unload a lot faster. Professionals also afford you time to focus on other tasks while they are unpacking. I love to use that time to clean before we start unpacking. I can wipe everything down and get started on high-use spaces, like the kitchen, as soon as the boxes are unloaded.
Movers doing the heavy lifting gives you more energy for unpacking and really saves you a lot of time. This company offers services including commercial and long-distance moving in the Athen, GA area. Find a company you can trust and let them do the hard part. I promise the move will be much more enjoyable.
4. Pack Snacks
Moving makes you hungry, and when you are in the groove it’s not always easy to stop and get food. I’ve started packing a cooler bag with some easy-to-grab snacks to save us time and money when moving. Meat and cheese packs, granola bars, waters, and iced coffee, are a few things I always include. I remember how grateful my hubby was the first time I did this! He is a push-through kind of guy, no food, no breaks, just get it done. I am not built like that at all. Not only did we not have to keep stopping to get me food, but he realized how much he needed a boost as well. Having quick, protein-packed snacks gives you energy and saves time like all of these tips do ;).
5. Pack An Overnight Bag
These are all game-changing tips, but this one here is where you really notice the stress if you are unprepared. I pack a carry-on suitcase with toiletries, pajamas, towels, and clothes for the next day. Nothing is worse than having to dig through boxes before you can wash off the grime of moving. Knowing exactly where everything is, ensures you get some good clean rest on the first night in your new place. You can also use this tip for the last night in your old place. Everything will be packed so getting ready the morning of the move can be annoying as well. Set out what you are wearing and use your travel toiletries so you can wake up and get moving.
I am so happy for you all growing and making big moves! I hope these tips help you have a successful next move and reduce some stress! A little pre-planning can help things go smoothly and stress-free! Happy moving everyone 🙂 Please let me know if these tips helped during your next move!

Thank you so much for including professional movers in your budget guide. One thing I really know I will struggle with is the heavy-lifting that my furniture will require from me, and I’m sure that I could easily hurt myself or stress myself out if I try to do it without any help. Once I find a moving company in the area, I’ll make sure I discuss their rates with them so I can include them into the budget.
