Our baby boy is 2 months old, and I have no idea where the time went! I did a ton of research when preparing for his arrival but a few items have become newborn essentials! We are by no means experts but we do have a happy, healthy, and chunky baby!
Below I will highlight 10 newborn products that we have found to be helpful in these first few weeks! Each link is shoppable, so make sure you check the items out!
10 Newborn Products
1. Diapers & Wipes
Stock up!! We had a diaper raffle at our small baby shower and got what I thought was plenty! The baby goes through a ton of diapers! Like 6-10 a day (Including the ones you change mid-change because the baby was still going)! We are using Pampers Pure diapers and wipes, as well as Water wipes! We tried a few other wipes but these work best for us!
2. Receiving blankets
Another item I thought we had plenty of! Once he hit the one-month mark and started spitting up, we ran through receiving blankets! Burp cloths are too small to protect your clothes and wipe them up! We use about 3-4 a day and yes you can wash them, but I prefer to let his laundry basket fill up vs. a ton of small loads.
3. Sound machine
It’s really loud in the womb so not only is silence unfamiliar to him, we didn’t want him to only sleep when it’s quiet. We need to be able to fully live our lives! A sound machine is soothing, drowns our noise, and gives him a sense of familiarity! We have a small one for the bassinet and stroller and a Hatch in his nursery!
4. Velcro swaddles
I don’t know about your baby, but my baby is too strong for the muslin swaddles. His little arms pop out before you lay him down! It could be our weak wrapping game but I am going to blame him since it’s my blog lol. We love the velcro swaddles because they not only keep his arms in, but they are super easy to use! Ease of use is necessary when you are dealing with newborns, especially regarding sleep!
5. Changing Stations
We have changing stations on each floor. When I say this is a necessity, I mean it! For the main floor, we have a pack ‘n play that has a changing pad on top. Upstairs, we have a changing pad on top of his dresser. Newborn changes can get messy, super messy, changing on a wipeable surface makes all the difference!
6. Zippered Sleepers With Mitten Cuffs
Our little has crazy sharp nails! It’s like as soon as I file them, they grow back. When he gets fussy he likes to rub and scratch his face. I didn’t want my sweet baby looking like a boxer so we leaned into sleepers with mitten cuffs. To kill two birds with one stone, we also made sure they were zippered. Sleepers with zippers are so much easier than ones with buttons. Even during the day, it’s nice to get through changes as quickly as possible!
7. Baby Carrier
Baby carriers allow you to be hands-free but also close to your baby! My hubby and I both have our own carriers so we don’t have to readjust each use. There is a ton of research on babywearing and the benefits but we love being able to move around!
8. Pumping Bra
If you plan to do any pumping at all, a pumping bra is a must! Holding the flanges will inevitably lead to spilled milk, just trust me! You can go cheap or expensive. Throw one on your registry so you can at least have your hands free while pumping!
9. Nipple butter
If you are breastfeeding at all (nursing or pumping) you are going to want some nipple butter. The first few weeks are rough and your nips will need some TLC! Earth Mama Organics is my fave because it’s safe for baby to ingest!
10. Bottles
I planned to 100% nurse my baby for the first 4 weeks. My baby had other plans. I am so happy I had already done the research and had bottles sanitized and ready to go. We went with ComoTomo bottles but find what is best for you! I would also suggest researching formula just in case.
Nothing can prepare you for life with a newborn, but researching and a little planning can really help with the transition. You got this, you will be great!
